The picture of the tub of assorted dinosaurs is is a good subject for the trade descriptions act. It shows a tub almost as big as the child, more like a toy-box, when in fact it is about 10x7inches in size. Why show a completely misleading picture. I suppose because it looks a better product than it actually is. There are, however, quite a few dinosaurs in the tub.

I reviewed this with my 4-year-old great nephew. He was excited by the large number of dinosaurs and seemed taken by the bright colours. I had thought of this as educational because the models do appear to be accurate in appearance. I could clearly identify the different species, with the Tyrannosaurus Rex being the largest model and Diplodocus being commensurately smaller. I don’t know if all of them are to scale but I suspect they are. But … two of these toys are dinosaur-shaped motor cars! What’s that all about? If anything is designed to cause confusion in a child who’s interested in dinosaurs it’s giving him fantastical creations of dinosaurs on wheels. I think this product is a little pricey, so the manufacturer could save money and reduce the price by removing the wheeled distractions. The model dinosaurs are robust but I noticed that some of them don’t stand up properly because their legs have deformed a little so it took some strength to pull them apart to give a wider standing base. The plastic mat for the child to make a sort of diorama was also interesting to him, and the addition of dinosaur eggs, some trees and a tree log added to the variety. In all I think this is a good educational toy but I would remove the silly cars before giving it to a child. With an older child I would enjoy teaching him/her the names of the different species. One word of caution: his little sister promptly put one of the eggs in her mouth. Parts of this are a choking hazard so don’t allow very little ones to play with it unsupervised. Recommended.
